More than the Bottom Line

While she initially envisioned a future in law, Chloe Chehardy chose a different path after discovering how dynamic and creative a career in finance can be.

"There are so many career paths you can take, whether it's banking, consulting, wealth management, real estate, or starting your own business. There is a path for anyone and everyone in this major."

Chloe explains that while technical skills are essential, finance is ultimately about sound judgment, ethics, and understanding human behavior. Because choosing someone to manage your money is a very personal decision, the professionals who build and sustain trust are most effective at attracting and retaining clients.

“I think EQ over IQ is going to go a long way in the finance field.”

At LSU, Chloe has seized opportunities to develop her leadership and interpersonal skills. During her term as her sorority's philanthropy chair, Phi Mu raised $195,000 for worthy causes. As service coordinator for Beta Alpha Psi, an honorary and service organization for accounting, finance, and information systems students, she collaborated with local nonprofits and other organizations to establish service partnerships.

"It wasn't until college that I immersed myself in leadership opportunities and really realized that I have a genuine passion for public service. Giving back to the community is so rewarding. It makes you feel so good. It has made me really proud, and it's definitely an accomplishment that I want to carry forward the rest of my career."

She will have a chance to put these principles into practice after graduation, when she moves to Dallas to begin her career as an analyst in financial consulting. From there, she hopes to hold a leadership position at an investment firm and eventually start her own business, a goal supported by her minor in entrepreneurship.

When asked about a challenge in the finance industry, Chloe points to the small number of women in executive leadership roles despite increasing numbers in entry- and mid-level positions. Solving this challenge will require a mindset shift, but Chloe believes it can begin with more women entering the field now.

"This is a huge reason for women to get into finance and take charge of that opportunity now. Incredible things can happen when women are able to make key investment decisions and are in charge of where capital is moving."

With a strong record of leadership, a heart of service, and ambitions of owning her own business, we believe Chloe will be part of the solution.

"When the day comes when I retire, I hope that people will just be able to say that I did my work with integrity and purpose, and that I was able to give back positively to the community, that I was able to create more opportunities for women, and open more doors for them. I also hope people say I balanced it well, because I really want to have a big family too. And I just want to show that women really can do it all."
