NAHJ elects new president
The members of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) elected Ricardo Pimental as the President of the association. The NAHJ National Officers for the next two years were announced during the Hall of Fame Gala at UNITY ’08 in Chicago.

AAJA Announces National Awards Winners
AAJA (Asian American Journalists Association) has announced that 13 journalists will receive national awards for excellence in news coverage of Asian American and Pacific Islander and other issues. AAJA will formally present the awards on Friday, July 25 at its Gala Scholarship and Awards Banquet during the 2008 UNITY: Journalists of Color Convention in Chicago.

NABJ (National Association of Black Journalists) has recently awarded scholarships over $167,000 in scholarships to students, pursuing a career in journalism, to attend colleges and universities. Click here to read more.

Columnist Leonard Pitts named Journalist of the Year by Black Journalists group
NABJ named Miami Herald columnist Leonard Pitts, Jr. Journalist of the Year at its spring Board of Directors meeting in Atlanta. Pitts will join Chicago television reporter Harry Porterfield who will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the association's Salute to Excellence Gala, Saturday, July 26, in Chicago.
The recipient of a 2004 Pulitzer Prize in commentary, Pitts has been with the Herald since 1991, first joining the paper as a pop music critic. Since his writings became syndicated in 1994, Pitts has become one of the country's most widely-read columnists.

Univision
Adds One Hour of News to Four TeleFutura Stations
Univision is adding one hour of local morning news on four owned
stations in New York, Miami, Los Angeles and Sacramento, Calif. --
some of the largest Hispanic media markets in the country and also
markets where the company owns two stations, one programmed with
Univision and the other with co-owned TeleFutura programming.
